Okta to Join S&P 500 in Index Reshuffle Effective Nov. 4
S&P Dow Jones Indices will add Okta to the S&P 500, displacing Kenvue, with related changes across MidCap 400 and SmallCap 600.
S&P Dow Jones Indices announced that identity security firm Okta Inc. will be added to the S&P 500, the benchmark index tracking the largest U.S. publicly traded companies, effective before the opening bell on Wednesday, November 4, 2026.
Okta, currently a constituent of the S&P MidCap 400, will move up to replace Kenvue Inc. in the large-cap index. The promotion reflects Okta's growth into a company large enough to qualify for the flagship index, a milestone that typically draws significant institutional investment as funds that track the S&P 500 are required to hold its members.

Alongside the headline move, S&P Dow Jones Indices announced additional adjustments to the S&P MidCap 400 and S&P SmallCap 600, with multiple companies shifting between tiers. Such cascading reshuffles are standard practice when a constituent is elevated, as the vacated slot must be filled from the next tier down.
Inclusion in the S&P 500 generally carries immediate market consequences. Index-tracking funds — which collectively manage trillions of dollars — must acquire shares of newly added components, often creating a short-term surge in demand. Conversely, companies removed from the index can face selling pressure as those same funds liquidate positions.
The changes take effect prior to the start of trading on November 4, 2026, giving market participants a brief window to adjust positions ahead of the official reconstitution. Continue reading at All Financial Services & Investing.
